The Slayton American Legion Post 64 (501-c19) has booked the Remember Our Fallen Traveling Tribute for August 11-16, 2026, to be on display at the Slayton Soccer Fields during the Murray County Fair. The Remember Our Fallen Tribute is made up of 34 towers containing 5,500 names with pictures of fallen service members from the global war on terror since 9/11.
The 20 years of Iraq and Afghanistan that the United States was engaged in active combat cannot be forgotten. It is our mission that they all be remembered. There are approximately 109 Minnesota persons that were killed in the 20 years of Iraq and Afghanistan and more persons from our neighboring states.
This Remember Our Fallen Display was booked to help celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States. 2026 is also 25 years since 9/11, and to have this display in southwest Minnesota approximately 1 month before the 25th anniversary is a great honor for our state. After 9/11/2026, this display will be retired from touring.
The cost of bringing this to Murray County is approximately $17,000. Including other costs associated with events celebrating the display, we need to raise at least $30,000.
We are asking for $500 sponsorships for each tower to help with the cost of bringing this display to Minnesota. All other donations will be accepted as well. Signs will be made up designating organizations and business sponsors for each tower, and each sponsor will be given a sign to post in their business as well.
Because the Slayton American Legion is not licensed for charitable gambling, those who have charitable gambling funds can donate under the Lawful Purpose Expenditures code A-26.
More information regarding this code can be provided upon request. Please follow on Facebook too!
