District Commander Thomas Behrends

Greetings to the Sensational 2 nd District,
Our Mid-Winter conference on February 7 th at Hardwick Post 478 was a huge success. There were 52 that attended, from all corners of the district. We had our reports and other business wrapped up by noon, had our meal, and set the hall up for the oratorical contest. We had two contestants, Leo Hendriks from Lake Crystal, and Grace Pahl from Vernon Center. In a close contest, Leo came away as the winner of the contest. She will be representing the 2nd District at the Department contest on February 28th at Anoka Post 102. We wish her the best of luck!
The new website for the 2nd District has been launched. The web address is: www.mn2nddistrict.org
We will be updating and changing things with your feedback. It is an exciting time for us as a district as our information flow should be much faster. Let me know your AAR comments or any ideas at thomas.behrends@gmail.com. We have a Veteran Owned Business tab under Resources. If a Veteran business owner is a member of the American Legion they can advertise there for free. This is our website, for all of us. Let’s make it the best one in the American Legion Department of Minnesota!
Joe Bares, American legion Department of Minnesota Membership Director has an incentive for the districts tied to the April 8th 95% target goal. If we are the 1st district to achieve 95% by March 28 we will receive $1,500.00, 2nd place receives $1,250.00, 3rd place receives $1,000.00. Any other district reaching 95% by March 28th will receive $850.00. Let’s push to get the $1,500.00, and hopefully make Joe Bares write out a lot of checks.
Brewster American Legion Post 464 is planning a testimonial for me on March 28th. Details will be coming, mark your calendars!
Thank you all for all you do supporting Veterans causes!
For God & Country,
Tom Behrends

Happy March and St. Patrick’s Day to you all! This month, I would like to focus on the importance of communication. Every one of you is vital to our Legion Family, including our Veterans, Legions, Squadrons, and Auxiliaries.
In reviewing recent reports, I have noticed that many members are missing phone numbers and email addresses. Having this information is essential for staying connected. Without contact details, it is difficult for the Legion Family to reach out regarding upcoming activities and events. Please keep in mind that providing this information is for coordination purposes and should not be viewed as a privacy issue. Currently, many Squadrons have 50% or more of their members listed without any contact information.
I am always here to support you, so please feel free to reach out anytime. If I am unavailable, please leave a text, email, or message on Facebook, and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Finally, I want to share how proud I am of every Squadron. We have achieved 1st place in membership again this month! We are currently at 97.8% and are well on our way to a 100% year. Congratulations and thank you for all that you do!
